Every team goes through the five stages of team development. First, here’s some background on team development. The first four stages of team growth were first developed by Bruce Wayne Tuckman and published in 1965. His theory, called “Tuckman’s Stages”, was based on research he conducted on team dynamics.
The Tuckman’s model of team development stages is the very basics of team management, and I believe most of you know them. But I don’t want to talk about team management, I want to discuss team leadership. According to Psychologist Bruce Tuckman, a team typically progresses through various stages in their overall performance. He described the phases of team development as forming, storming, norming, and performing in 1965. He later added the final stage of adjourning also known as mourning. According to Tuckman’s Model, a team like the one described above would be in the Forming phase.
